UPDATE – Mounjaro Injections
Devon NHS have confirmed that they will be working on plans to make Mounjaro available to people who meet strict national criteria – Because demand is expected to be high, the NHS is rolling it out in phases over the next three years starting with a BMI over 40 and at least 4 specific health conditions.
The criteria, as we know, is as followed:
• Year 1
BMI over 40 AND 4 or more weight-related health conditions
• Year 2
BMI between 35 and 39.9 AND 4 or more weight-related health conditions
• Year 3
BMI over 40 AND 3 or more weight-related health conditions
The Health conditions listed are:
• Type 2 diabetes – High sugar levels in the blood
• High blood pressure (and on medication) – When your blood pressure is too high
• Dyslipidemia – When your cholesterol or blood fats are not balanced
• Sleep apnoea (and receiving treatment) – Breathing stops and starts during sleep
• Heart and circulation problems (called atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease) – Includes conditions like heart attacks, angina, stroke, heart failure, or poor blood flow to the legs (also called peripheral vascular disease)
The route for us to provide this service has not yet been agreed so please do not book a GP appointment or call the surgery to ask for Mounjaro – we will contact you directly if and when you are eligible.
In the meantime, we encourage patients to explore other local weight management support services, which may help without the need for medication.
We’ll keep you updated when local prescribing becomes available. For more information, visit:
